St. Mary & St. Paul Coptic Orthodox Church of Calgary began its services in 2013 with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Mina, Bishop of the Diocese of Mississauga, Vancouver and Western Canada. By the grace of God, and the support of St. Mina Coptic Orthodox Church of Calgary and the other churches in our diocese, our church has continued to grow and flourish and was officially registered in June 2015. The church welcomes everyone to join our growing family and partake in our services and events. May the Lord be glorified and may the blessings of St. Mary and St. Paul be with us all.
The Coptic Orthodox Church was founded by St. Mark the Evangelist one of the apostles sent by our Lord Jesus Christ to spread the Lord’s teaching. He founded the Coptic Church in Egypt around 61 A.D. and is regarded by the Coptic hierarchy as the first patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church. The Coptic Church or the Church of Alexandria is called "See of St. Mark;" one of the earliest four sees: Jerusalem, Antioch, Alexandria and Rome. His Holiness Pope Tawadros II is the 118th Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark. (Fr. Tadros Y. Malaty; Introduction to the Coptic Orthodox Church)
